Self Control Like a Pro

As human beings we often struggle with coping with stress, time management, success, and simply having too much to do. There are simple changes we can make in our lives to manage our time better, feel more confident about our work, and keep building without burning yourself out. Here’s how in 6 steps:

Creating & Understanding Your Identity

It’s extremely important to have your own look and feel when you start a business, brand, or simply want other’s to know that ‘this is my work’. Developing a brand identity is relatively simple - you figure out what style works for you, and then utilize that across all platforms. Some of the elements of having a consistent identity include:

Colours - Using the same colours across all social channels will allow the viewer to recognize your identity without even reading anything.
Fonts - Fonts can impact the way you present yourself to your audience. Sharp, Serif fonts often represent luxury, while Sans Serif is more welcoming.
Brand Voice - Are you quirky? Serious? Motivational? Sarcastic? How your brand speaks will make all the difference to you and your audience.
Mission Statement - A mission statement is a way to give people an idea of who you are, what you do, and how you can help, wrapped in one sentence.
Logo - Make sure your logo speaks to the brand, matches your tone, and is representative of your mission statement.

Follow those steps to create a meaningful, effective brand identity and you’ll feel more confident in your branding and yourself. Send us a message if you need help developing a brand identity!

Setting Reminders

Accountability is the key to productivity. We’ve all been there… finding ourselves procrastinating over and over, saying we’ll start tomorrow, next week, even next month. Don’t worry, it’s not your fault - you’re just not organized yet.

The easiest way to start getting things done is to write them down and check things off as you go - use a software to track your tasks and set reminders to motivate you to get things done. We recommend google calendar, making use of the the colour system to keep it organized. Sounds easy right?

Here’s the thing - it’s easy to set reminders but that doesn’t mean these task are magically going to get done. It’s about setting the right reminders. For example:

Reminder A: “Work on client website today”
Reminder B: “Complete homepage copy, add header image, and insert contact form on client website today”

See the difference? Listing out your tasks not only makes it easier to get things started, but also makes you feel better after accomplishing multiple tasks.

Embracing Your Faults

It’s a common misconception that failure means you’re doing something wrong. How else would we learn without making mistakes? If we didn’t make mistakes we simply wouldn’t know the difference between right and wrong. So stop thinking you’re a failure because you’re still in the learning phase. Instead, make a list of things that didn’t work, then figure out how you can do it better next time.

Targeting Fundamentals

Stop thinking big picture and focus on the day to day activities. Obviously it’s important to think about where you want to be in 5… maybe 10 years. But it’s not that important. If you focus on that long term goal too much you’ll never actually get there because you’re not focused right now.

CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF | GO TO SLEEP AT THE SAME TIME EVERY NIGHT | MAKE YOUR BED | EAT BREAKFAST | DRINK WATER | STRETCH | FOCUS ON HYGENE

Literally just focus on being the best version of yourself everyday and eventually it will become a habit and others will notice.

Practicing Meditation & Controlling Emotions

Too often people lose control over their emotions and they simply accept it. Don’t allow the various archetypes of your mind to seize power of your emotions. Instead, learn how to react skillfully in stressful situations by taking the time to simply observe what the mind is doing.

Meditation gives you the opportunity to do this. The more you meditate, the more you notice the thoughts and actions that trigger the emotions you might not find desirable.

Unless you make the effort to observe your thoughts and attempt to understand what the mind is doing, you are never going to learn about your inner self. Simply believing every thought that pops in your head and living under your mind’s umbrella is not constructive.

As you gain more awareness of your thoughts, actions, and emotions, you will notice that you make better decisions. Instead of merely reacting to adverse situations, you will obtain a more useful comprehension of what’s going on in your mind.

Building Habits

When you start focusing on what makes you happy, you’ll notice that the tasks you once considered as chores will begin to become automated. Consistently using your brand identity, setting up reminders, completing tasks, learning from failure, focusing on the fundamentals of being human, and taking time to listen to your own mind will ultimately build healthy habits, guiding you to success!
